Rightwayupsidedown
This is a unique, abstract animated short with a jazzy 2d/3d blended style created by me and Emily Harvey.
It includes two characters –Louie and Ella- involved in a dynamic chase scene to jazz music.
The intention of the piece was to create a fun and jazzy short that had a lot of character and personality and was also entertaining and enjoyable to watch. Our aim was to create a project involving lots of character animation and also confront the challenge of animating to music.

The evolution and making of Rightwayupsidedown
I rigged and weight-painted both characters(apart from ella’s legs). However, I animated solely the female character- Ella. I wanted to convey my character Ella's whimsical, bouncy personality and contrasting it as much as possible with Emily’s character Louie who is grumpy and clumpy.
Ella had to clash with Louie. In contrast to Louie’s bad tempered, heavy character, she needed to be happy and light. As such it was important for her to have long bouncy legs. And as she is moving to the saxophone and was originally meant to be a saxophone spirit, we wanted to keep some of her jazzy/sassiness. As such she has saxophone buttons and a curvy body shape which curls round to make her bottom.
